Janet Coxwell studied singing with Laura Sarti at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since leaving college she has had a flourishing career as a soloist and consort singer, predominantly in the world of early music, though she enjoys performing all genres and has a particular passion for French song and the music of Benjamin Britten.

Jan’s diary for 2011-12 reveals another busy season for The Tallis Scholars, a successful early music ensemble with whom she has sung since 1991. Touring with these 'a cappella superstars' (The Boston Globe) takes Janet all over the world. She appears with them regularly in the USA, Japan, Australia and Europe. As well as performing with the group, she is now one of the directors of their hugely popular summer schools, held annually in Oakham in the UK, Seattle in the USA and Sydney, Australia.

In addition to singing with the Tallis Scholars, Janet has performed and recorded with many of this country's leading ensembles – The English Concert, Gabrieli Consort, The Sixteen, The Cardinall's Musick, BBC Singers, Scholars Baroque Ensemble, Magnificat and many more. Recent solo engagements have included ‘Carmina Burana’ with Newbury Choral Society and Haydn’s ‘Nelson Mass’ in St Pauls Cathedral.

Her close collaboration with Classic FM’s Composer in Residence Patrick Hawes has launched her into the world of the media. Her 'bell-like tones' (The Financial Times) can now regularly be heard around the world and on CD, Television, Radio3 and Classic FM, where she and Patrick have achieved great success with their CD Blue in Blue. She premiered his song cycle ‘The Call’ - written for her, in Lincoln Cathedral with the English Chamber Orchestra, and more recently his new song cycle ‘SONG OF SONGS’ accompanied by her own choir ‘The Cecilia Consort’ at Douai Abbey in Berkshire.

Janet is well known for her versatility and is equally at home whether she is singing Allegri or Verdi, on film scores or pop CDs or enjoying an end-of-course Karaoke session! She would love to perform live with a big band, given the opportunity.

Janet likes to be busy and her hectic schedule includes adjudicating and running workshops, teaching her ever growing family of singing pupils at Cheam School in Hampshire and directing The Cecilia Consort, in two concerts a year. She brings her expertise and sense of humour to Newbury Choral Society as their Assistant Chorus Master, as well as juggling the very busy musical diaries of her family! Janet loves working with amateur singers of all ages, she promotes the value of singing for all and brings a refreshing approach to choral rehearsals and courses.
